Another Monday is upon us. Summer is flying by. Somedays I'm sad that fall is fast approaching because I'm really enjoying having Morgan home. Others....i'm counting down the days because he is driving me nuts. Lol !
The hallway take 3. Yes, thats right! 3 makeovers in a little over a year. Last spring I found a beautiful 9ft church pew on Kijiji. When I first saw pictures I was excited because the wood looked like it was in perfect condition. A little wipe with Miss Mustardseed's hemp oil and I would be good to go. Then I picked it up, and it was awful looking. It was a pee yellow colour with gum stuck everywhere and names engraved on every inch. I seriously toyed with the idea of stripping and staining but Anthony talked me out of it, Smart guy ! Take 1 was a blueish white, that lasted about 4 months then I painted it black. I liked the black but I didn't love it , so I decided to paint it white. I initially wanted it white but felt like I was overdoing the white around here. Lesson learned... always trust your gut. I wanted the bench to feel cozy, somewhere where I could sneak away from the kids or wait for customers to pick up orders. I found a local lady to make a custom cushion for me. It was a splurge but one I'm really happy with.
My first DIY coat rack was an old door split in half . I stencilled my favourite verse on it "As for me and my house, we will serve the lord." We used and loved it for almost a year and then a few weeks ago I sold it. It was by far my most complimented piece. If it had of been just a tad bigger i would have kept it but it was too small over the 9ft pew. The hallway is big and narrow. I looked for months to find the perfect hooks for the new coat rack I invisioned. I finally found them last weekend at the old barn we stopped by. Fait brought us together, I needed 10 and there was exactly 10 in the booth.
Under the bench sit 4 antique apple crates. They are filled with the junk I don't want people to see. I added felt to the bottoms to protect the floor and so they would slide out easily for the kids.
The two plaid pillows are from Homesense and the one in the middle is from Ikea. I definitely want Roxanne from Window Wraps ET Cetera to make me more pillows this fall. The quality of her sewing is beautifu. The custom cushion is one of her masterpieces as well.
Here is another look at the old washstand my Mom gave me. This piece is also on make over #3. I used Fusion's "limestone."
The full view, Isn't is beautiful ?
In a few weeks when the talented graphic designer over at The Stencilsmith is finished redesigning "as for me and my house...." I'll post a photo of my new sign.
