Mother's Day is just around the corner, finding the perfect gift that Mom doesn't already have is tricky, and if she's anything like My Mom she'll keep saying she doesn't want anytehing. I believe she means it, but In addition to spending the morning with her, I still like to give her something. Over the next few days, I'm going to share with you some of my favourite ideas.
Taking time for ourselves is something all moms, at any age struggle with. For some reason, we have a hard time spending money on ourselves or indulging in services "we don't need." A little pampering can do you a world of good, give you energy, and make you feel confident.
Before my wedding, I treated myself to a facial. When I booked I had no idea what I needed; there were so many choices! After the facial the skincare professional overwhelmed me with many products that I didn't even need, I felt too shy to say no and too embarrassed to say I couldn't afford them, so I purchased what she suggested and walked out of the spa with $500 on my credit card. After that experience, I shied away from spas in general. Pregnancy gave me some pretty ugly skin tags on my face; I was desperate to get rid of them. I did some research and found Enhance on Main Street. They use a laser to remove them, the process was painless and affordable. I was so happy with the staff and results that I went on to have more services. Last month I visited the new location on Bronte they specialize in facials and massages. They are offering an introductory facial special of $59.00. ($49.50 until the end of the month) I was relieved when I discovered they don't have a bunch of different facials with different price points. They completely customize the facial to suit your needs and target things you want to improve. Needless to say, after almost ten years of marriage, and two kids my face was severely congested. My pores are big, and I'm always picking at my face. When I met with Claudia, the co-owner of the spa I immediately felt relaxed, she was very calm, asked me a few questions and had me fill out a questionnaire. We talked about my concerns, and then she got started. I never felt rushed or like she was trying to get me in and out as quickly as possible. We talked about skincare products during the treatment, never once did I feel like she was trying to sell me something. I try to live a naturally based life without using harsh chemicals or unneeded additives. Enhance carries two lines Miracle 10 & Eminence. Over the last ten years, I've used a few products from the Eminence line, have had excellent results and feel comfortable using the line on my skin.
My new favourite is the Vanilla Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 25. I don't like wearing makeup, but as I get older, I notice that my skin is uneven. BB creams or CC whatever you call them are too thick and feel caked on. Sun protection is important, but my skin is so oily. I often skip sunscreen on my face and wear a hat.
The coverage is very light but just enough to make my skin look consistent and glowing. None of the products contain water, by adding a few drops, you can make them last longer. I use the moisturizer on a damp face so all I need is one pump.
As I've mentioned a few times, my skin is oily, but in the winter it can be a terrible mix of oily and dry. Claudia recommended I try a night cream. I didn't buy it at my appointment but after I thought about it for a few days I went back and bought it. I'm glad I did because it's really made a difference. When I wake up my skin doesn't feel any oilier than usual. I wash my face with the Mangosteen Daily Resurfacing Cleanser and then apply the tinted moisturizer.
Anthony loves this moisturizer, he adds a few drops of water but I use it at full strength. It smells so good you'll want to eat it. It comes with a litte spoon and the jar is big and easy to get the product out of. You don't worry about wasting any.
I love serums and this is one of my favourites. If I have a breakout I use this directly on the area and within a day or two the redness it totally gone. Again, it smells delicious! I've been using the same bottle for a few months because I add water.
When I told Claudia I was going to share my facial experience and skincare favourites on the blog she generously offered to give you guys 10% off of any Eminence Skincare Product until the end of May. If you check out their facebook page or Instagram account, you can see other weekly specials on services and product promotions. Book Mom a facial and pick up a facemask for yourself! Mention the Tesser Traditions Blog to redeem your discount at the spa, on products that are in stock!
